The Dairy and Maple Tour
The emphasis of our farm tours is to assist the public on how a commercial family farm operates.
- A tour of the dairy barn, milkhouse, haybarn, feed area and calf barn.
- A brief overview of the farm’s history, policies and practices.
- A walk through the dairy barn learning about the day-to-day operations. How to take care of the livestock, calves to milking cows, and how we produce raw milk.
- Explanations on cow care, veterinary services, feed programs and breeding are discussed.
When weather and time permits, a short hike can be enjoyed into the sugarwoods to see the trees and maple sap lines. Forest Management Practices and the work that takes place in the woods are discussed.
The tour finishes up with a visit to the sugarhouse where the evaporator and maple sugaring equipment are housed. An overview of the maple syrup season, grades of maple syrup and other maple products are explored.
All tours finish up with samples of products made at the Carman Brook Farm.
